Dr Clever Banda is a specialist paediatrician who obtained his basic medical degree in Zimbabwe and subsequently completed specialist paediatric training in Australia. Dr Banda works as a staff specialist paediatrician at the Hervey Bay Hospital. He moved to Australia in 2006 and trained in hospitals in Darwin, Brisbane, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and Caboolture prior to moving to Hervey Bay. He completed most of his paediatric training through the Royal Children’s Hospital in Brisbane (now Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital).
He holds the Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians from Edinburgh, Scotland. Dr Banda’s other qualifications include Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK), Master in Public Health & Tropical Medicine from the James Cook University and a Diploma in Child Health from the University of Sydney. He is near completion of a Master of Health Management degree through the University of New South Wales (UNSW). He is a Member of the Australasian College of Health Service Management.
Dr Banda enjoys teaching and holds an academic title of Senior Lecturer at The University of Queensland where he is actively involved in the teaching of medical students. He is also actively involved in the training of specialist paediatric trainees through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. He was the winner of the 2016 Gold Teaching Award for the best teacher at the University of Queensland Hervey Bay Rural Clinical School as nominated by Final Year medical students.
In his free time, Dr Banda enjoys spending time with his family. He is married to his lovely wife Chido. They have 3 young kids and Dr Banda therefore relates to the various challenges that parents face in bringing up children.
