Dr Ajith Mahavithana qualified as a Medical Practitioner with a Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2003 from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Peradeniya in his home country of Sri Lanka. In 2005, he commenced his career as a General Practitioner after completing his internship in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Dr Mahavithana contribution to Community Medicine in rural health clinics is appreciable. He continued his practice in Kandy, the hill capital of Sri Lanka after working for two and half years. Alongside practising, he explored different fields of medicine and completed a Master of Science (MSc) from the Post Graduate Institute of Science at the University of Peradeniya in 2010.

Ajith migrated to Queensland after serving in Sri Lanka for 8 years. He completed a number of educational programs, including Family Planning Programs, Psychiatry in General Practice, and Sexual Health and HIV Programs. He moved to the Northern Territory in 2014.

As a doctor in Stuart Park, Dr Mahavithana is well-known amongst the Palmerston Community as a trusted and highly-respected practitioner. He obtained his fellowship of The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2017 and joined Top End Medical Centre in Stuart Park location the same year.

Ajith is bilingual and speaks English and Sinhalese. He is enthusiastic about working with and caring for people in the Darwin community.
