Overview

Dr. Pran Lal qualified 40 years ago in India. After practising in Fiji for 8 years (6 years as a Paediatric Registrar), he moved to New Zealand after a military coup in Fiji in 1987.

During his 19 years in New Zealand he worked at various rural hospitals and at the four major hospitals in Auckland, in various departments including 4 years as a Paediatric Registrar at the then National Women’s Hospital and Middlemore and Greenlane Hospitals (where he also completed his Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology). He gained experience in general medicine, emergency medicine, gynaecology and obstetrics, Ear,

Nose and Throat, paediatrics and community medicine, including emergencies. During his hospital training, he tutored medical students and junior doctors. He completed surgical courses in Minor Surgery and the Diploma of Community Emergency Medicine, leading to his Fellowship of the Accident and Medical practitioner Association of New Zealand (FAMPA). Because he wanted to continue using the knowledge and skills he had acquired he decided to become a GP. He worked for 8 years as a GP in NZ, completing his FRNZCGP. During this time, he was nominated by his employer for GP training in ENT and became the first GP with a Special Interest in New Zealand (GPwSI ENT).

In 2006 he decided to move to the Gold Coast because of the beautiful weather here and has established himself as a GP.

He loves children, and most children are not scared when he examines them. His policy with patients is that they are there only because they need care. I depend on them; they do not depend on me. He always tried to resolve their problems in his clinic. Dr. Pran manages many complex conditions and performs procedures including Iron infusions, lmplanon™ insertion /removal, skin cancer diagnosis and management, treatment of fractures, and other emergencies at a community level. He is a true all-rounder. In Australia, he has been a Clinical Examiner for the Royal College of General Practitioners for the last 4 years.

He welcomes new patients as well as patients known to him at other practices.
