Dr Magassy has been a full time General Practitioner in Wollongong since 1982, after graduating from the University of Sydney and completing her Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. She is a Clinical Associate Professor with the Graduate School of Medicine at the University of Wollongong and is a current member of the University of Wollongong Council. She is involved in teaching medical students from the University of Wollongong. She was Chairperson of the Illawarra Division of General Practice from 2001 to 2004.  She is appeared as 'Dr Liz' on Illawarra ABC radio for 16 years.

In her spare time she loves reading, swimming, doing crosswords and spending time with her two Golden Retrievers.
