Overview

General Practitioner Bsc, MBBS, FRACGP

“The key to being a great GP is looking at the whole person and all the things that could potentially be happening in that person, at that age, at that time.”

To Dr Jake the most rewarding element of being a GP is the opportunity to help people every day. Sometimes it’s through little things which inspire patients towards a healthier way of living. Sometimes it’s on a life changing level, diagnosing potentially serious medical conditions Big or small, every patient (and their story) matters to Jake.

With a specialty in skin cancer medicine and surgery, Jake completed a Bachelor of Surgery and Medicine at the University of Notre Dame, Fremantle and an Advanced Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine and Surgery at the Skin Cancer College of Australasia. This is where his high attention to detail thrives, bringing unwavering precision to diagnosing what is, and delineating what could be; like finding melanomas on patients who would otherwise not consider getting their skin checked or pinpointing irregularities they didn’t know existed.

Men’s Health is another specialisation of Dr Jake’s. He knows it can be difficult to open up, so takes time with his male patients to understand where they are both physically and mentally. With candour, he explores areas such as testosterone levels, prostate health, erectile dysfunction, sexual health and even the responsibilities of fatherhood, drawing on his own experience as a dad. His patients often comment on this friendly, relatable and down to earth approach. It’s a source of reassurance that builds trust with his patients for life.

The key to being an exemplary GP is taking time to look at the whole person; a trait Jake believes all doctors should embody. This deep interest in people’s overall well being is part of what attracts him to general practice. Having grown up in a small country town outside of Esperance, he understands the importance of a thriving community that is born from wellness not only in the individual, but in families and the support systems around them. It’s why he works hard to build ongoing relationships with all his patients, supporting their life journey, watching them grow and growing along with them.

When he’s not at work Jake is living an active lifestyle with his wife and kids. He loves going jogging, hiking and finding new and invigorating ways to build a healthy lifestyle and a healthy mind.
