Overview

Dr Owen Latimer grew up in Melbourne and after completing VCE graduated with a Bachelor of Biomedical Science in 2001 from Monash University. During this time Owen decided to study Medicine with the intention of becoming a General Practitioner; he was accepted into the University of Queensland graduate entry Bachelor of Medicine/Surgery degree in 2002 and graduated in 2006.

 

Owen subsequently did an internship and residency at Ipswich Hospital with rotations through most specialty areas, including extensive time in Accident & Emergency and Paediatrics. Owen then did a further 6 months of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Mater Mothers’ Hospital and a further 6 months of Paediatrics.

 

Owen commenced GP Training in 2010 – the majority of this rurally in Bundaberg at Alexandra Park Medical Centre, one of the most highly awarded practices in Australia. This practice was the 2006 RACGP Australian Practice of the Year and his supervisor Dr Patrick Byrnes, was the 2007 Medical Observer GP of the Year and the 2010 RACGP Australian GP of the Year. Owen completed the RACGP exams in 2011 and became a fellow of the RACGP in 2012.

 

Owen has special interests in Children’s Health, Chronic Disease Management (for example, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Disease, Asthma), Mental Health and Skin Cancer diagnosis and management. He also enjoys the teaching and mentoring of new GP’s and the challenges of Practice Management, having become a Partner at Eastbound Clinic in 2016.

 

Owen is married to Dr Cerys Jones and they have two young children. Owen is an avid Essendon Bombers fan, unlike his wife.
