Perth startup attracts top tech talent to grow healthcare platform
Expands presence nationally with Sydney and Melbourne office openings
HealthEngine, Australia’s largest online healthcare marketplace, today announced the appointment of two new senior leaders: ex-Citibank IT Director, Mark Hammond, as Head of Technology, Engineering and Data Security; and Mark Dick, LinkedIn Australia’s former Sales Director, as Head of Sales.
The hires come as HealthEngine uses its recent AU$26.7m Series C funding round to invest in employee growth. The company has increased its headcount by almost 30% in three months.
To support that growth, HealthEngine has also opened two new working locations in Sydney and Melbourne. With over 1.4 million unique users a month, and tens of thousands of medical practitioners on the platform, HealthEngine is on a mission to transform the way in which Australians access and use healthcare services.
HealthEngine CEO, Medical Director and GP, Dr Marcus Tan, says the new hires are important in ensuring the business continues to shape the future of health-tech in Australia.

To do this, we need to constantly question how and why we do things, push some boundaries, and enable providers to lead change, all while putting patients at the centre of care.”

Mark Hammond brings to HealthEngine over 15-years in technical expertise. He has led the technical arm of several consumer facing IT projects, including the deployment of large scale IT operations at Citibank, Bank of America and Barclays Capital. His experience in creating transformational e-commerce platforms, with a focus on product development velocity and information security, presents a new scale of opportunity for HealthEngine. Mark will be responsible for leading the technical and security teams at HealthEngine, ensuring patient and practice data is kept safe during platform growth.
As HealthEngine’s new Head of Sales, Mark Dick will be responsible for growing HealthEngine’s national sales teams, and enhancing the brand’s sales development functions. Coming to HealthEngine from LinkedIn where he was part of the founding team in Australia and went on spend several years in Silicon Valley at LinkedIn’s global headquarters, Mark has extensive experience in leading sales and marketing teams in diverse, forward thinking, and industry defining organisations.
The two hires add to HealthEngine’s already impressive leadership team, which is led by Founder, CEO and GP, Dr. Marcus Tan, and co-Founder and Head of Product, Adam Yap.
