Long-acting modified-release preparations of methylphenidate with a longer duration are available for treating an individual with ADHD. They provide both an immediate-release, and also a delayed release of methylphenidate, so as to act similar to taking a breakfast and lunchtime dose of immediate-release methylphenidate. They have the advantage of being given once daily and can increase compliance in children. Modified release preparations include Concerta (10-12 hour duration) and Ritalin LA (6-8 hours duration)
