The follicular phase of the menstrual cycle is the phase, following menstrual bleeding, in which oocytes are developing and maturing in ovarian follicles in a woman’s ovaries. The follicular phase is the first 10–14 days of the 28-day menstrual cycle. This phase is initiated from the day bleeding stops, and finishes with a mid-cycle surge of luteinising hormone (LH).
