My name is Belinda and I am Principal Psychologist at Life Resolutions Daisy Hill. Everyday I get to do what I love – which is helping people live better lives. Every person starts at a different place when coming to therapy, some are challenged by depression or anxiety, some with the relationships in their lives. Others just have a sense that things can be better than they are – where things are ok, but they want them to be good or great. Psychology assists everyday people, people with jobs, careers and families, to live the life they want. It’s ok if you have a challenge with mental health, it is also ok if you don’t – psychology is for everyone, with lots of different start points.
Part of what makes my job so great is seeing people change. Using a positive psychology approach, my practice uses a combination ofstrengths based focus, with more traditional therapies like Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. The overarching aim to provide skills to help address challenges, skills which clients can continue to use long after the sessions or the course of therapy is complete.
As a general psychologist I work a little like a GP, in that I have a variety of people attending my rooms. With over a decade of working in psychology, I feel comfortable with a range of presenting issues. My background working in schools allows me a good depth of understanding of the issues affecting families, children and teens. From bullying, in all its forms, to anxiety and parent-child relationships and beyond, psychology can help everyone lead better lives.
My adult clients attend my rooms for a variety of reasons. Some struggle with anxiety and depression, some in their relationships, some seek career changes or how to manage workplace bullying, and some just know that something isn’t right. For some clients it’s an idea that life can be better, that with some coaching life can move from good to great. For me, assisting people to live better lives, to find their health and wellness, is such a privilege.
Psychology is about change – things don’t need to be completely off the rails to know that they could be better. Like anything, a problem caught earlier, is always easier to solve. You don’t need to be crazy to see a psychologist, you just need to be willing to change. Remember, it’s good to talk.
