Advanced Eyecare, Research and Education
The Eye Health Centre of Western Australia (EHCWA) is a state-of-the-art optometry public-facing and teaching clinic operated by the University of Western Australia’s Doctor of Optometry team. We provide eye care services to the public, train UWA Doctor of Optometry students, and conduct clinical research that guides best practices.
Our services
EHCWA offers comprehensive optometric examinations to the general public, mostly at no out-of-pocket cost to patients.
The EHCWA Student Clinic offers comprehensive eye health examinations. These consultations are carried out by second or final-year students of the University of Western Australia’s Doctor of Optometry program, under the close supervision of qualified, experienced optometrists.
We also accept referrals from community optometrists, general practitioners, and other health practitioners for Speciality Care Clinic. These appointments incur a private fee with Medicare rebates where eligible.

Pricing and payment
Billing policy
We are a mixed billing practice. Student Clinic consultations (Appointment conducted by third-year Doctor in Optometry student under close supervision of quilified Optometrist) are bulk billed for elegible Medicare card holders. If you do not hold a Medicare card, a consultation fee applies, however, a rebate may be available through private health insurance.
