Overview
Dr Tim Isaacs has been providing ophthalmic care to patients in Perth and Western Australia for over 20 years. He completed medical school at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, and trained as an ophthalmologist in London at the Western Ophthalmic and Moorfields Eye Hospitals. He underwent training in vitreoretinal surgery in Perth, and has served as Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Royal Perth Hospital since 2002. He holds an academic position as Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Western Australia.
As a vitreoretinal surgeon, Dr Isaacs performs surgery for retinal detachment, vitreous haemorrhage, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, and diabetic retinopathy. He is a member of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Retinal Specialists. He has special interests in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) including the new injectable medications.
Dr Isaacs has a special interest in ocular oncology, and manages the majority of patients in Western Australia diagnosed with eye tumours. In 2014 he introduced the technique of prognostic tumour biopsy in patients with choroidal melanoma in Perth. He is a member of the International Society of Ocular Oncologists, and is a speaker at international conferences of ocular oncology.
Dr Isaacs participates in rural ophthalmology services to the Kimberley region of WA, and is involved in a volunteer retinal training programme for local ophthalmologists with the charity Sight for All in Laos.
