Overview

Ambulatory EEG

An ambulatory EEG is a non-invasive diagnostic test that records your brain's electrical activity over an extended period, typically 24 to 72 hours, while you go about your normal daily routine. Unlike a standard in-clinic EEG, the ambulatory version uses a small, portablerecording device attached to electrodes on your scalp, allowing continuous monitoring in the comfort of your own home. This makes it particularly valuable for detecting intermittent abnormalities that may not appear during a brief clinic recording.

At CURA Medical Specialists, our neurologists use ambulatory EEG to help diagnose and manage conditions such as epilepsy, unexplained blackouts, seizure-like episodes, and sleep-related disorders. The test is set up at our clinic by our experienced team, who will explain theprocess and ensure you feel comfortable before you leave with the device. Results are reviewed and interpreted by our specialist neurologists, who will discuss findings and any recommended next steps with you at a follow-up appointment.

Routine EEG

A routine EEG is a safe, painless test that measures electrical activity in the brain over a 20 to 40 minute session conducted in our clinic. Small electrodes are placed on the scalp using a washable paste, and the recording captures brainwave patterns while you rest quietly, with brief periods of light stimulation such as flashing lights or deep breathing. No sedation or needles are involved, and you can return to your normal activities immediately afterwards.

At CURA Medical Specialists, routine EEG is one of our core neurological investigations, commonly used to assist in the diagnosis of epilepsy, evaluate changes in consciousness, and support the assessment of various neurological conditions. Our specialist neurologists interpret every recording in-house, ensuring accurate diagnosis and a seamless pathway from testing to treatment planning. A referral from your GP or specialist is required, and our team will guide you through any preparation instructions when you book your appointment.
