Overview
Sherlyn is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker with a background in Psychology. She understands the complexities of the human mind and has a passion for bringing healing and restoration to those in need. Since 2018, Sherlyn has dedicated her career to helping individuals from all walks of life to reach their fullest potential. She has experience dealing with a wide range of mental health challenges including depression, anxiety, stress, relationship difficulties, post-traumatic stress disorder, perinatal and postnatal anxiety and depression, suicide risk and borderline personality disorder. Sherlyn has worked in various settings, including community mental health, non-governmental organisations before starting out in a private practice.
Growing up in an Asian community, Sherlyn has extensive experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Her extensive exposure to and involvement with Asian communities has provided her with a wealth of knowledge and insights into the cultural nuances, beliefs, and practices that are unique to this population. She recognizes that cultural differences can impact an individual's mental health and well-being and strives to provide culturally sensitive care that is tailored to each person's unique needs. Sherlyn also has a special interest in perinatal and postnatal anxiety and depression. She understands how these conditions can affect individuals and families so she aims to provide a supportive and safe place for new or expecting parents-to-be to share their experiences and to learn to accept themselves as unique, whole, and peaceful individuals.
Sherlyn believes that no single approach is the right one for every individual, and so she immersed herself to be trained in a range of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectic Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Intervention (SFBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), and Trauma-Focused Therapy to provide a treatment that is holistic, taking into consideration the individual's physical, emotional, and social needs.
