Dr Joseph Rodriguge Fernando comes to Burgundy Street Family Medical as an experienced General Practitioner, having previously practiced at the Centre Road Medical Centre in Bentleigh East for four years. Dr Fernando graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Kelaniya, Sri Lanka, in 2002. He obtained his Fellowship of the Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2011. Moreover, Dr Fernando holds an American Medical Council certificate and has further qualifications as a Skin Physician. He is a seasoned GP in Heidelberg with 11 years of experience as a doctor in Australia. Dr Fernando has previously worked as an Emergency Registrar at Werribee Hospital and General Surgical Registrar at Geelong Hospital.
As a General Practitioner Dr. Fernando specialises in all facets of General Practice, with a special interest in Chronic Disease Management, Skin Cancer Checks, Hormonal Implant Insertion and Removal, Men’s Health, Travel Medicine and Workcover. He also performs Minor Surgery and Skin Cancer Removal. In addition, he teaches medical students from Monash University and Melbourne University, and is a supervisor to oversees trained doctors.
