Dr Shivany Mahesan

Dr Shivany is a GP Registrar joining Edinburgh Family Practice this year. She brings over 10 years of medical experience across a wide range of hospital and emergency settings, with a strong focus on holistic and preventive care.

Background and Clinical ExperienceDr Shivany completed a Bachelor of Anatomical Sciences at the University of Bristol in 2007, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from King’s College London in 2012. She worked within the NHS for two years before migrating to Perth in 2015.

Since relocating to Australia, Dr Shivany has worked at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital and Joondalup Health Campus across multiple specialties, including Plastics, ENT, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Surgery. She also has extensive experience in Emergency Medicine, where she has been working for the past five years.

Dr Shivany is accredited as a Lifestyle Medicine Doctor with the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine (ASLM) and is qualified in Implanon insertion.

Approach to CareDr Shivany believes that general practice plays a vital role in helping patients optimise their health and quality of life. She is passionate about both treating medical conditions as they arise and preventing illness through sustainable lifestyle changes. With her training in lifestyle medicine, she aims to support patients in managing chronic disease and improving long-term health outcomes alongside evidence-based medical care.
