Overview
Dr. Paul Mercer is an experienced GP who founded Silky Oaks Medical Practice in 1987. With a strong focus on holistic and compassionate care, he has developed expertise in chronic disease management, addiction medicine, mental health care, palliative care, aged care, and minor procedures. Over his distinguished career, Dr. Mercer has trained and mentored more than 90 registrars, contributing significantly to the development of the next generation of medical professionals.
Dr. Mercer chairs the international NGO “Health Serve Australia” and is an active participant in the Queensland Doctor’s Health Programme. He is also a member of various professional and community organisations, including Doctors for the Environment, the Medical Association for Prevention of War, Bayside Uniting Church, and the Theology on Tap Brisbane Team.
Beyond medicine, Dr. Mercer enjoys reading, golf, AFL, and cricket, and he looks forward to focusing on writing as he gradually reduces his clinical commitments. He is married with three children and ten grandchildren, embracing a rich family life.

Pricing and payment
Billing policy
Our fees will increase from the 14th of September. Please refer to our website for more information. From 2026, all new patients will need to pay a gap fee. We are a mixed billing practice. Bulk billing is available Mon–Fri 9am–5pm for active existing patients prior to 2026 ONLY who hold a Concession Card or for children under 12. Bulk billing and concession rates are not available on Saturdays and Saturday appointments attract a higher gap fee. Telehealth requires pre-payment. Please refer to our website for our fees.
