Hi I’m Dr. Nicola Oakley, feel free to call me Nikki. When I was 9 years old I hurt my knee while running over ice and snow at school. I was attempting to prevent some older kids from destroying a snow fort I had made the previous day. The snow fort didn’t survive, my knee was injured quite badly, and it wasn’t long before I began complaining of a sore back. Thankfully my dad was a chiropractic patient and he took me to see his chiropractor.

I am so grateful to have injured myself, since it was the beginning of my chiropractic journey. My family learned that chiropractic care was not just for people who had had pervious injuries and surgeries. We learned that it was a way to feel well and prevent injuries and surgeries.

My chiropractor used to joke that one day I would be a chiropractor…. I always said I wouldn’t, I think just to bug him, but as I grew older I couldn’t ignore the fact that I was very passionate about helping people feel well without the use of conventional medicine. This passion has continued to grow and I cannot imagine being anything other than a chiropractor.

I am originally from Toronto, Canada and I moved to Adelaide in 2008. My husband, whom I met in Canada, is originally from Adelaide and we felt the lifestyle here was more suited to us. We have since had 2 children – Emily 9 and Sarah 7.

I graduated from The University of Western Ontario in 2002, where I obtained a Bachelor of Science Honours majoring in Kinesiology. Kinesiology is the bio- scientific and sociocultural study of human movement. This involves studying the activity of muscles and the functioning, mechanics and structures of the body parts involved in movement, as well as psychological, sociological, and cultural factors affecting physical activity and sport. My main focus in my studies was exercise physiology, body mechanics and anatomy.

I then studied at the prestigious Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in Toronto, Ontario Canada and graduated in 2006.Throughout my studies I was a personal trainer and I specialised in rehabilitation.

I enjoy using my undergraduate education and my personal training experience in conjunction with chiropractic care to create specific treatment plans for my patients. I think about your body like it’s a machine full of moving parts, sometimes these parts malfunction and there is a knock on effect. I love figuring out what is happening and restoring function and finding a way to maintain that function so you can benefit from long-term wellness.I truly enjoy working with patients of all ages to achieve their health goals. I would welcome the opportunity to work with you.
