The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery provides a general trauma and elective orthopaedic service. This service has increased with the transfer of elective orthopaedics from Hollywood Private Hospital to SCGH in June 1997.
Together with the University Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, there is a special expertise in the treatment of musculoskeletal tumours, bone allografts, joint replacements and sports medicine.
Research activities include several on going randomised controlled trials and Cochrane meta-analyses.
Research activities include an ongoing involvement by the orthopaedic wards in the international Pulmonary Embolism Prevention Trial.
The Department is committed to the training and teaching of orthopaedics to both undergraduate and postgraduate medical, nursing and allied health students
