The RANZCP Training Program
Fellowship training with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists takes a minimum of 5 years.
Basic Training 3 years
- Training includes rotations in
- Adult general psychiatry
- Child / adolescent psychiatry
- Consultation liaison
- Rural psychiatry
- Indigenous mental health
- Psychiatry of old age
- Addiction
- ECT (electroconvulsive therapy)
- Psychotherapy
- Satisfactory Case Histories
- Summative Assessments by supervisors
- Written Examination
- Clinical Examination
Advanced Training 2 years
- 1 year in clinical psychiatry
- 1 year in one or more areas of psychiatry or clinically relevant research
- 7 core advanced training experiences
- Experience in psychological aspects of management in psychiatry
- Experience in biological aspects of management in psychiatry
- Experience in aspects of social management in psychiatry
- Experience in cultural aspects of management in psychiatry
- Experience in the application of consultative skills in psychiatry
- CME activities
- Skills development in leadership and management in psychiatry
- Subspecialty training may be in:
- General psychiatry – hospital or community based
- Child and adolescent psychiatry
- Psychiatry of old age – Psychogeriatrics
- Forensic psychiatry (concerned with legal, compensation and criminal cases)
- Psychoanalysis and psychotherapy
- Addiction
Dual Fellowship Training Program
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) and The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP)
- This allows the opportunity to specialise simultaneously and gain Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Paediatrics. The program can be completed in a minimum of 7 years.
