The Royal Australasian College of Physicians Training Program
The Royal Australasian College of Physicians training program takes a minimum of 6 years – 7 years or more if trainees undertake a joint Advanced Training Program.
Basic Training 3 years
On rotation either in general medicine or general paediatrics, must be in accredited hospitals and supervised appropriately.
This must also include:
- Completion of 4 Learning Needs Analyses per year
- Participation in 10 Mini-CEXs (Mini Clinical Examinations)
- Participation in Multi-Source Feedback
- 4 Meetings per year with Educational Supervisor
- 2 Meetings per year with Professional Development Advisor
- Completion of 1 Significant Incident Analysis per 6 months
- Satisfactory Annual Progress Reports
- Satisfactory completion of an Advanced Life Support / Advanced Paediatric Life Support Course
- Pass in Written Examination
- Pass in Clinical Examination
Advanced Physician Training
Advanced training takes at least 3 years. Where joint or dual training is being undertaken this is often extended to 4 years.

Each of the above training committees provides their own written guidelines on the requirements for subspecialty training.
Training usually involves
- Supervised work in that subspecialty area
- Research or project completion
- Some disciplines have further examination requirements
- Successful supervisor reports
