The RACGP Training Program

For completion of Australian General Practice Training a minimum of 3 years (full time) postgraduate vocational training is required. The training program is known as the Australian General Practice Training Program (AGPT) and is administered by General Practice Education and Training (GPET) Ltd.

  1. Mandatory Hospital Experience – 1 year
    1. Usually this is the resident year
    2. To include a broad range of experience, ideally Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics and Emergency Medicine
  2. General Practice Terms
    1. Basic GP Training
      6 months in an accredited training practice
    2. Advanced GP Training
      6 months in an accredited training practice
    3. Subsequent GP Experience
      12 months in an approved practice
    4. Special Skills Training
      May replace 6 months of Subsequent GP Experience
  3. RACGP Examination
