FRACDS Training Program
Basic Surgical Training
A minimum of two years Basic Surgical Training is completed next.
- BST Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery clinical year spent in a hospital post accredited for basic and surgical training by the RACDS
- BST Surgery in General clinical year at a University Teaching Hospital preferably in related disciplines such as ENT surgery, plastic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, neurosurgery, ophthalmology or general surgery.
- Designated BST Courses
- Australian and New Zealand Surgical Skills Education and Training (ASSET)
- Early Management of Severe Trauma course (EMST)
- Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient course (CCrISP)
- Completion of Logbook / Learning Portfolio
- Successful completion of Formative Assessment Reports
- Primary Examination of the RACDS
Advanced Surgical Training
Advanced Surgical Training for the RACDS takes a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years.
- Successful completion of a minimum of 36 months of advanced Surgical Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Successful completion of Formative Assessment Reports
- Completion of Logbook / Learning Portfolio
- A Research Project of up to one year may be undertaken
- Clinical training Assessment
- Case Presentation and Discussion
- Assessment of Operative Process
- Final RACDS Examination (a and one of b, c, or d)
- General Dentistry
- Oral Medicine, Oral Surgery and Oral Pathology
- Restorative Dentistry and Periodontics
- Paediatric Dentistry and Orthodontic
Related, (overseas) qualifications:
MRCP, CCST
