The ANZCA Training Program

The ANZCA Training Program takes a minimum of five years of supervised Approved Training and is divided into Basic and Advanced Training.

  1. ANZCA Basic Training (2 years)
    1. Primary Examination
    2. Four Educational Modules
      1. Introduction to Anaesthesia and Pain Management
      2. Professional Attributes
      3. Anaesthesia for Major and Emergency Surgery
      4. One other module (listed in the Advanced Training)
    3. EMAC (Effective Management of Anaesthetic Crises)
      or
    4. EMST (Emergency Management of Severe Trauma)
  2. ANZCA Advanced Training (3 years)
    1. Final Examination
    2. Complete all Educational Modules
      1. Obstetric Anaesthesia and Analgesia
      2. Anaesthesia for Cardiac, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery
      3. Neuroanaesthesia
      4. Anaesthesia for ENT, Eye, Dental and Maxillofacial Surgery
      5. Paediatric Anaesthesia
      6. Intensive Care
      7. Pain Medicine – Advanced Module
      8. Education and Scientific Enquiry
      9. Professional Practice

On completion of all Training Program requirements the Trainee will be awarded the Diploma of Fellowship and be entitled to use the qualification of FANZCA – Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists.
