The AChPM Training Program
Advanced training for specialist Palliative Medicine takes three years.
- The trainee will spend a core of at least 2 years working as in a supervised Palliative Medicine Unit. This should be spread between inpatient care, community care and consultative practice in a teaching hospital.
- Ideally 6 months of this should be rurally based.
- Must spend 6 months working as a medical oncology registrar, radiation oncology registrar or haematological oncology registrar

- Communication with Terminally ill patients, their families and other health workers
- Suffering, loss and Grief
- Project completion
- Research, Audit, Case Reports or Systematic Review
- Satisfactory Supervisor Reports
- Up to 6 months of research or work towards a higher degree such as masters or PhD may be granted
- Balance of time spent in any position relevant to the practice of Palliative Medicine
