The ACEM Training Program
The ACEM Training Program takes a minimum of five years of supervised approved training. This includes the following:
- ACEM Provisional Training (1 year)
- 6 months Emergency Medicine in accredited department
- 6 months approved training in Emergency Medicine or related specialties
- Primary Examination
- Must be completed before commencing Advanced Training
- Includes Anatomy, Physiology, Pharmacology and Pathology
- ACEM Advanced Training
- 30 months of training in accredited Emergency Departments (ED)
- 18 months training in a variety of approved non-ED disciplines
- Minimum of 6 months anaesthetics or intensive care
- 6 months in any approved ED related discipline, for example toxicology, retrieval medicine, research…
- Remainder made up of intensive care (max 12 months total), anaesthesia (max 12 months total), medicine (max 12 months; maximum of 6 months in any one sub-specialty), surgery (max 12 months; maximum of 6 months in any one sub-specialty)
- A minimum paediatric training requirement
- Logbook of 400 cases, usually equating to 6 months paediatric Emergency Medicine
- Publication / Presentation of a Paper
- Fellowship Examination
