Allied Health Practitioners
Allied health professions are clinical healthcare professions distinct from medicine and dentistry. Australia has more than 90,000 allied health professionals, who provide a range of valuable health services that make up our diverse healthcare system.
A Medicare rebate is available for a maximum of five services per patient each calendar year, provided the treatment is part of a patient care plan prepared by their general practitioner. Many private health funds offer rebates to varying degrees.

Complementary Medicine Practitioners
Complementary and alternative medicine is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not presently considered to be part of the conventional medical system. Over half of Australians are reported to use at least one of the many forms of complementary medicine.
Rapid growth in recent years is largely due to increasing demand from the public, to maintain health and wellbeing, treat difficult conditions, or as an alternative to the unwanted side effects of some conventional medicines and procedures.
Australia is a world leader in the practice and teaching of complementary medicines. Many complementary medicine practitioners belong to professional associations and peak bodies, whose role is to ensure their members are qualified, maintain high standards of safe practice and liaise with the community.
